before 7:00 last night on the lyndale avenue, off story road. no word on a suspect description or motive. this is the 12th homicide in san jose this year. an update to a story we first told you about yesterday morning on kron four news weekend. seven people were displaced from their homes after two houses caught fire in pittsburg. firefighters responded to a report of a fire on raindrop circle off winter way at around 5:00 yesterday morning. two neighboring homes were on fire. firefighters were able to put the fire out within 30 minutes. all 7 people were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported. investigators say the fire caused 400-thousand dollars in damage. police say two leaky gas meters fueled the fire. the fire started between the homes and the gas meters of both homes fed the flames.

>> marty:the death toll is now at 32 after a magnitude seven- point-oh earthquake hit southwest japan early saturday. the country was struck by another powerful tremor just two days earlier, killing nine people. this is a look at some of the damage behind me. more than one-thousand people were injured in both quakes. emergency crews are searching for those possibly trapped under the rubble. c-n-n's matt rivers reports japan has now deployed 25- thousand troops to join the search-and- rescue efforts. >> reporter:her 80 year old father survived when this building collapsed on top of him. and that's the only piece of good news kiyomi matsuoka has got. it's just so surreal, she says. i'm still in shock. kiyomi's family ran a salon in this building for 40 years. they lived together in the back. but two earthquakesthe first on thursday, then again on saturdayshredded her home.

its devastating she says. utterly devastating. kiyomi is like tens of thousands of others in southwest japan, still reeling from the unexpected disasters. dozens were killed, hundreds injured, and some are still missing, buried under twisted metal and wood. we watched as a rescue team went property by propertylooking for anyone still alive. it's grim work.few have been found so far. but that's partly because precautions were taken. this photo was taken on friday.and this is what that home looks like now. oddly enough some people we've spoken to in this neighborhood say they're actually happy that two earthquakes occurred. after the first one hit tens of thousands of people were forced to evacuate from neighborhoods like this one. so when the second hit on saturday, some fifteen ties stronger than the first one, there were less people around. that might have saved lives."

most of those evacuees ended up at shelters like this oneparents, kidsgrandparents dogs. some don't have homes to return to. the ones that doare simply too afraid to go back, for fear of more aftershocks. the earthquake was over in an instant. but it's effects will be felt far longer than that. matt rivers, cnn, kumamoto, japan. u-s treasury secretary jack lew will soon unveil some changes to lew is expected to announce that alexander hamilton's face will remain on the front of the 10- dollar bill. but a mural-style depiction of the women's suffrage movement word is that president andrew jackson's face will be removed from the 20-dollar bill in favor of a woman representing the struggle for racial equality. lew is expected to make changes official later this week.

the sharks are in control of their playoff series against the los angeles kings. joe pavelsky found the back of the net in the 1st period for his third goal of the playoffs. then in the 2nd period logan couture put the sharks up by two and that would be enough.

a fisherman has become a local legend after catching a shark that broke the scale. take a look at it. that's a twenty foot. 550 pound thresher shark. it was caught off the coast near san diego. thresher sharks aren't known for being aggressive towards humans. but they are known for being extraordinarily strong. it's an experience that this fisherman can't believe. "you've got to put everything you've got into it, you know? i'm sure it took those guys, a couple of guys i'm sure, it took quite a while to get that guy in." the fisherman who caught the shark says it put up a long fight. but that he was lucky enough to hook the shark in the mouth.making it easier to reel in. coming up if you're nice to me you might just end up with a something extra wont be texting and driving again i'll never do it again promise i promise you where's your bluetooth if you're not so nice i don't get a blue tooth but you

"it's a fun idea i guess. in theory. but not for him." the officers who chased the suspect across these rooftops never fired their weapons. reporting in san francisco. kate cagle. kron 4 news. new this morning. the san francisco police department has released the names of the officers involved in a deadly shooting earlier this month. this is surveillance video near the scene. sargent nate steger and officer michael mellone shot and killed a homeless man back on april 7th after they say he charged at them with a knife. >> marty:the officers say they first tried to subdue luis gongora with beanbag rounds after he ignored orders to drop the knife. when that didn't work they opened fire. as part of standard protocol both officers are on paid administrative leave. decision 2016. and hillary clinton facing more protesters during her visit to los angeles.

bernie sanders supporters actually started throwing money at her motorcade. they threw one thousand dollars in singles at the caravan. clinton was on her way to a fundraiser at george and amal clooney's home in los angeles. tickets for the star-studded event started at more than 30- thousand dollars. protesters blasted "hail to the chief" and "we're in the money" as clinton drove by. aside from the fundraiser with the clooney's. clinton was also in town to greet voters. she spoke to a large crowd at a college yesterday. clinton touching familiar themes including calling for the federal minimum wage to be raised from 7-dollars and 25- cents.

the next few days. polls show him way behind hillary clinton heading into tuesday's new york primary. sanders is hoping for an upset in new york in order to close the gap in delegates. despite winning the last 7 contests, sanders still trails clinton by more than 650 delegates. 247 delegates are up for grabs on tuesday. and on the republican side heading into tuesday's new york primary. donald trump is the heavy favorite. the latest poll out of quinnipiac university shows trump with a commanding 35 point lead over governor john kasich. ted cruz comes in third with just 19% support. donald trump is hoping that a win in new york will stop the momentum of senator ted cruz who made it a clean sweep in wyoming on saturday. he captured all 14 delegates that were up for grabs at the state republican convention. under wyoming's electoral rules--the other 12 delegates
